Indian young shuttler Lakshya Sen knocked out his own teammate HS Prannoy from the Denmark Open 2022 badminton tournament to enter the quarter-final match on Thursday. Lakshya will face next Japan's Kodai Naraoka.

The world no. 8 Lakshya won the match 21-9, 21-18, which lasted 39 minutes in the pre-quarterfinals. Lakshya took the lead with every point in the first set of the match which lasted 40 minutes. At one point Sen was leading 17-5, so Prannoy tried to make a comeback but he looked weak in front of Sen. In the second set, the competition between the two was very strong from the beginning. After the score at 17-17, Sen set up with fine drop shots and won the match.
With this win, Lakshya's head-to-head record over Prannoy has gone up to 3-2. This was the fifth encounter between the two players and Sen got the win for the third time. Although, Prannoy had won over Sen in the previous two matches, including in the third round match of this year's World Championship.
At the same time, former champion Kidambi Srikanth also crashed of the Denmark Open 2022 Super 750 tournament after losing in straight games to Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the pre-quarterfinals. He lost 13-21, 15-21 to the seventh-seeded opponent in a match that lasted 35 minutes. Srikanth, who won a silver medal in the World Championship 2021, won the title here in 2017. His winning record against Yew was tied at 1-1 before the match on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in men's doubles, the seventh-seeded pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals. The Indian doubles pair defeated Indonesia's Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Maulana Bagas 21-14 21-16 in a 36-minute match. They will now face the fourth-seeded Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the quarterfinal match.
On the other hand, in women's doubles, the pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand and the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto crashed out of the tournament after losing their respective pre-quarterfinals. Treesha and Gayatri were beaten 23-21, 21-13 by the sixth-seeded pair of Thailand's Jongkolphan Kititharakul. Ishaan and Tanisha lost 16-21, 10-21 to second seeded Japanese pair of Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino.
