Yuzvendra Chahal will be donning a new jersey from IPL 2022 after playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2014. Rajasthan Royals purchased the Indian spinner for 6.5 crores at the IPL 2022 mega auction. There were some speculations that Chahal remained unavailable for retention as he might get a better contract in the auction but Chahal cleared all the misconceptions in a recent interview with Times Of India.

I never thought I would play for some other team: Yuzvendra Chahal said during the interview
The veteran spinner made a major revelation in the interview. He shared that the RCB management never asked his opinion on the retention part for the upcoming seasons. Rather, Mike Hesson, the RCB Director of Cricket simply informed the leggie about the 3 retentions; Virat Kohli, Glen Maxwell, and Mohammad Siraj. He also added that he would have agreed to stay on the team if the management asked him once.
"The thing is they never asked me. They just called me and told me about the three retentions. If they had asked me whether I wanted to be retained, I would have said yes. Because money is secondary to me. RCB have given me so much, they gave me the platform, they gave me so much love and support, the fans gave me a lot of affection. Yes, I am attached to RCB emotionally. That's the most important thing for me."
Speaking on his bond with the team, he shared, "I am emotionally attached to RCB. I never thought I would play for some other team. People and fans on social media are still asking me 'why did you ask for this much money?'. The reality is that Mike Hesson called me and said 'Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions' (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj). They didn't ask me whether I wanted to be retained or tell me if they wanted to retain me. They just talked about the three retentions and I was told that â 'we will go for you in the auction'. Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention. But I will always be loyal to my Bangalore fans. I love them so much, no matter what."
Interestingly, the 31-year-old was a part of Rajasthan Royal in IPL 2010 but did not play a match for the franchise.
