Babar Azam and Heather Knight were made the captains of Men's and Women's ODI Team of the year in ICC Awards 2021.

ICC had already announced the Men's and Women's T20I teams of the year. They have now released the T20I teams of the year for both men and women's categories. Babar Azam continues his charm in the ICC awards 2021 as he is selected as the captain of the Men's ODI team of the year. Meanwhile, Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj are also included in the Women's ODI team of the year.

Babar Azam, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Mustafizur Rahaman feature both in the ICC Men's T20I and ODI team of the year. As many of the leading test playing nations did not play many ODI games, players from lower-ranked test and ODI teams were seen missing in the ODI team of the year.

Interestingly, Pakistan and Bangladesh dominated the team chart with as much as with two and three players in the team. Ireland also saw some success with Paul Sterling at the top and Simi Singh's outstanding bowling performances. Meanwhile, Janeman Malan had an outbreak year along with his fellow South African partner Rassie van der Dussen who scored a magnificent hundred against India yesterday.

In the Women's team, Tammy Beaumont, Marizanne Kapp, Shabnim Ismail features from the T20I team of the year. Meanwhile, 39-year old Jhulan Goswami becomes the oldest cricketer ever to feature in any ICC Team of the year. Her 3.77 economy rate with 11 wickets makes it impossible to ignore her from the Team of the year. On the other hand, Shabnim Ismail's pace and aggression make her one of the feared bowlers in the women's circuit.

Evergreen Mitahli Raj and Heather Knight still make it to the team once again. The Indian captain had hit six fifties meantime Knight had scored 423 in 2021. Lizelle Lee and Alyssa Healy's performance at the top has been outstanding as well. Lee had scored 632 runs at 90.28. Meanwhile, Healy, the wicketkeeper had scored 267 runs in just six ODIs in 2021.

Fatima San is the only Pakistani in the Women's ODI team of the year. Anisa Mohammed was also the solo representation from the West Indies.
