Turkey vs Portugal: Arda Guler scored a terrific goal against Georgia

Turkey entered Euro 2024 on the back of a five-game winless run in all competitions and they had also lost the opening match in each of their previous five Euros appearances. However, they kick-started their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Georgia this time. They became only the second team in European Championship history to name two teenagers (Guler and 19-year-old Kenan Yildiz) in their starting lineup, and both players are set to continue on the flanks against Portugal.

Arda Guler scored a terrific goal against Georgia and his natural game was also very good. Captain Hakan Calhanoglu will operate in a deeper midfield alongside Kaan Ayhan. However, Montella has options like Borussia Dortmund's Salih Ozcan and West Bromwich Albion's Yokuslu.

Zeki Celik and Merih Demiral are on the bench but a back four of Muldur, Samet Akaydin, Abdulkerim Bardakci, and Ferdi Kadioglu will most likely start once again. Muldur scored the opener in the last game and it was a sensational goal. Feyenoord's Orkun Kokcu will most likely play the number 10 role with Yilmaz in front of the goal.

    Portugal

Portugal had an excellent outing in the Euro 2024 qualifiers with a perfect record of 10 wins from 10 games. But they started their campaign with a narrow victory over Czechia but it wasn't about the scoreline. Portugal didn't play their best football and Roberto Martinez's team selection also raised many questions.

Martinez will stick to his formation as he is very rigid with his tactics. Nuno Mendes will operate on the left side of a back three next to Pepe and Ruben Dias while Diogo Dalot and Joao Cancelo occupy the wing-back roles. He may introduce Inacio in the second half.

Vitinha put in a man-of-the-match display last time out and is expected to retain his starting spot in midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes. Joao Palhinha, Joao Neves, and Ruben Neves are expected to be on the bench but it is the main problem. Martinez is considering Bernardo and Rafael Leao on the wings but that didn't work properly in the last game. A little bit of changes may convert this team into a different level team.

Ronaldo has to start in front of the goal with Diego Jota coming on in the second half. Jota is very direct with his play style and is a goal scorer. If Martinez can use him properly, then it will be very good for Portugal. Portugal have too many options in every position but the best XI is yet to start a game.

    Possible Starting XIs

    Turkey's possible starting lineup:

    Portugal's possible starting lineup:
Costa; Pepe, Dias, Mendes; Dalot, Fernandes, Vitinha, Cancelo; Bernardo, Ronaldo, Leao
