Mumbai City FC qualified for the ISL 2023-24 (Indian Super League) final and will face Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on 4th May. Jorge Diaz and Lallianzuala Chhangte scored in the second leg as Petr Kratky's side beat the Gaurs 5-2 on aggregate at the Mumbai Football Arena. The Gaurs couldn't do anything, and it became quite easy for Mumbai City FC to clinch the victory.
A highlight of the game
FC Goa tried to shock the Islanders by scoring first but the home side didn't allow them to do so. Noah Sadaoui had a terrible game and also saw a yellow in the first half. The Islanders almost extended their lead when Tiri tried a header and the ball came off the post. It was a golden opportunity but Tiri would consider himself unlucky. The Gaurs didn't even test the goalkeeper for once in the first half.
Mumbai had the game under control and as the game progressed, the Goa players looked desperate. Chhangte got a huge opportunity to extend the lead in the 60th minute. He beat his marker and sent in a left-footed curler which flew inches over the net. He caught Dheeraj off guard and it could have been a sensational goal.
The Islanders didn't have to wait long. Van Nieff took a corner in the 69th minute and Bheke tried a header on goal. Goa blocked it but Jorge Peryra Diaz rattled the net on the rebound and extended Mumbai's lead. The killer blow arrived in the 83rd minute following a mistake from Goa. They lost the ball in the midfield and Mumbai started an attack on the counter. Vikram drove in a low cross from the left for Chhangte and the latter kept his composure to beat Dheeraj, extending the lead for the Islanders.
It was enough to see off the Gaurs. Despite keeping the possession in the second half, the visitors didn't create any threat in the opposition price and ultimately paid the price.
