Ashleigh Barty, the current No. 1 women's tennis player in the world and a three-time Grand Slam champion, has announced her retirement from the sport at the age of 25. Last Tuesday night, the Australian announced her choice in a video on her Instagram page.

"I just don't have that in me anymore"- Ashleigh Barty

"I know how much work it takes to bring the best out of yourself," Barty said in a video. "I've said it to my team multiple times — 'I just don't have that in me anymore.' Physically, I have nothing more to give. I've given absolutely everything I have to this beautiful sport of tennis, and I'm really happy with that. For me, that is my success."

Nevertheless, Barty remarked in her video that winning Wimbledon, which was her dream, transformed her perspective."I just had that gut feeling after Wimbledon and had spoken to my team quite a lot about it. There was just a little part of me that wasn't quite satisfied, wasn't quite fulfilled. There was a perspective shift in me in the second phase of my career, that my happiness wasn't dependent on the results."

"The challenge of the Australian Open, and I think that for me, feels like the most perfect way — my perfect way — to celebrate what an amazing journey my tennis career has been … As a person, this is what I want. I want to chase after some other dreams that I've always wanted to do," the World No.1 added.

Barty, 25, has won 15 WTA Tour championships and has a 305-102 career record. Since June 24, 2019, the Australian has been the World No. 1 player.

Barty has won three Grand Slam titles, including the French Open in 2019, Wimbledon in 2021, and the Australian Open earlier this year. She has also won a Grand Slam doubles title, with partner CoCo Vandeweghe, at the 2018 US Open. Also, Barty announced her retirement from tennis after winning 25 of her past 26 matches. Nevertheless, On Wednesday, Barty will hold a press conference to discuss her retirement.
