#1. Lionel Messi (758 Goals)

Lionel Messi holds first place in terms of scoring goals for the country in all competitions. Messi has amassed a total of 758 goals in 812 matches and is currently ranked 2nd in terms of most career goals scored. With a tally of 758 career goals, Lionel Messi is now second on the list of most career goals. Messi's majority of the goals have come in Barcelona jersey 678 club goals while playing for the national team he has scored 80 goals.

#2. Alfredo Di Stefano (512 Goals)

Alfredo Di Stefano was an Argentine footballer who played for Real Madrid and was one of the most influential figures in their domination of the European Champions' Cup during the 1950s. A period in which Los Blancos won the trophy in five consecutive seasons.

Di Stefano is currently the 2nd highest scorer in Argentina history with 512 goals. He is also Real's leading goalscorer in the history of El Clasico.

#3. Delio Onnis (461 Goals)

Delio Onnis might not be a familiar name to many but he is one of the top Argentines with a lot of goals under his belt. He started his career with Stade de Reims in 1971 and finished his first season with 22 goals and his second season with 17. In 1974, AS Monaco signed him, and over the next 7 seasons. He was their top scorer every year, eventually scoring 223 goals for them in all competitions. In all of his total career, Onnis has summed up his tally to 461 goals.

#4. Carlos Bianchi (433 Goals)

Another elite argentine who kicked off his career with Vélez Sarsfield at the age of 18. In 1973 Bianchi, just like his countryman Onnis, joined Stade de Reims. He showed his goal-scoring abilities by scoring 107 goals in four seasons and being the top scorer in the French championship in 1974, 1976, and 1977. His overall career took him to a tally of 433 goals and thus he is the 4th highest goal scorer in Argentina's history.

#5. Sergio Aguero (431 goals)

Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from soccer due to a heart problem. The Argentine scored 431 career goals for club and country and won 20 major trophies, including the 2021 Copa America over the summer.

Aguero made himself remembered for his clinical and cool finisher during his 10 years with Manchester City where he won five Premier League titles.

#6. Atilio Garcia (358 Goals)

Atilio García started his career with Club Atlético Moreno, Club Atlético Platense and Boca Juniors in Argentina before joining Nacional.

Nacional is where his career flourished Most top scorer awards. During his time at Nacional, the club won 25 titles, including eight championships. García was the top scorer in the league on eight occasions. His total career goals ended with 358 Goals.

#7. Mario Kempes (357 Goals)

Mario Kempes is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a striker. A prolific goalscorer, at club level he is best known for playing for Valencia, finishing as La Liga's top goalscorer twice; and amassing 116 goals in 184 league games for the club. During his time in Valencia, he won the Copa Del Rey, the European Cup Winners' Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup; as well as two consecutive Pichichis, scoring 24 and 28 goals in 1976/77 and 1977/78 seasons. In his all-over career, he has scored 357 goals.

#8. Gabriel Batistuta (356 Goals)

Batistuta started his career in Argentina in 1988 with Newell's Old Boys, followed by River Plate and Boca Juniors where he won numerous titles. The prolific striker played most of his club football with Serie A club Fiorentina in Italy, where he is the club's all-time top scorer in Serie A with 151 goals. Batistuta stayed with the club and helped them return to the top-flight league after they got relegated in 1993. He moved to Roma in 2000 for €36 million where he won the 2000–01 Serie A title. After a brief loan spell with Inter Milan in 2003, he played his last two seasons in Qatar with Al-Arabi before he retired in 2005.

#9. Diego Maradona (346 Goals)

The world was shaken by the news of the death of Diego Maradona at the age of 60. He was considered to be one of the greatest football players to ever play. Maradona scored many amazing goals in his career, the first goal (The hand of God) he scored against England in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup was the subject of a lot of controversies. The second is the greatest goal in the history of the World Cup. At club level, he played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla, and Newell's Old Boys during his club career; and is most famous for his time at Napoli where he won numerous accolades.

In his international career with Argentina, he earned 91 caps and scored 34 goals. Maradona played in four FIFA World Cups, including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he captained Argentina and led them to victory over West Germany in the final. He won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

#10. Gonzalo Higuain (339 Goals)

Gonzalo Higuain is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a striker and serves as captain for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami. Higuain started his career with the Argentine Argentinesclub River Plate, before a transfer to Real Madrid in 2007. His time in Spain saw him win several domestic honors, including three La Liga titles, and score 107 goals in 190 league appearances. He joined Italian side Napoli in 2013, where he won the Coppa Italia during his first season.

Italian champions Juventus signed him up in 2016, becoming one of the highest football transfers of all-time and highest ever transfer for an Italian club. He won domestic doubles in his first two seasons with Juventus; also reaching the 2017 Champions League final with the club. In 2018, he was loaned to Milan, and later to English side Chelsea in January 2019. Where he won the UEFA Europa League, before returning to Juventus in the summer of that year; adding another Serie A title to his trophy cabinet the following season. Higuain has scored a commendable 339 goals in his career as of now. Thus he is placed at 10th in our list of Top Argentine scorers in football history.
