U20 Asian Athletics Championships: Indians dominate in 3,000m steeplechase; Ekta, Ranvir win gold

U20 Asian Athletics Championships: Indians dominate in 3,000m steeplechase; Ekta, Ranvir win gold

Indian athletes maintained their dominance in the men's and women's 3,000m steeplechase events on the second day of the 21st U20 Asian Athletics Championships in Dubai on Thursday.

Ekta Dey won the gold medal in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a timing of 10:31.92s, while Ranvir Singh was victorious in the men's event, winning the gold medal with a timing of 9:22.62s. India won a total of seven medals on the second day of the U20 Asian Athletics Championships.

In the morning session, race walker Aarti performed brilliantly by winning a bronze medal in the tightly contested women's 10,000m. Aarti's bronze-winning time of 47:45.33 seconds was better than the World Under-20 Athletics Championships qualification time of 49 minutes. 

Anurag Singh won a gold in the shot-put event

Earlier, Anurag Singh Kaler had won the gold medal in the men's shot-put event. It took time for Anurag to settle down in shot put. He faced South Korean Park Sihoon for the gold. Kaler started his campaign with a throw of 18.44 and after reaching 18.69m in his second attempt, achieved the gold-winning throw of 19.23m in his third attempt.

There were no points in the fourth and fifth attempts and the sixth and final throw was 18.79m. Park Sihoon also had a best throw of 19.23m, but due to Kaler's better average in the U20 Asian Athletics Championships, he got the silver medal, depriving Korea of ​​winning the gold medal.

Defending champion Siddharth Choudhary won the bronze medal with a throw of 19.02m in his second attempt. His other throws were below the 19m mark.

Amanat Kamboj, who is practising at the National Center of Excellence (NCOE) in Patiala in Punjab and supported by REC Ltd, added a silver medal to the team tally. Aman Choudhary won the bronze medal in men's 400m with a timing of 47.53 seconds.
