Babar Azam relinquishes Pakistan captaincy, citing World Cup disappointment

Babar Azam has stepped down as the captain of the Pakistan Cricket team from all form of cricket. The star batter posted his statement on social media to make the announcement. Babar was criticised for his captaincy in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 and was not able to take Pakistan into the knockouts.

Babar was given the captaincy post Sarfaraz Khan's failure as captain of Pakistan cricket. The No.1 T20I batter was the captain of Pakistan cricket team for last four years.

"I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019. Over the past four years, I've experienced many highs and lows on and off the field, but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan's pride and respect in the cricket world," Babar said in his statement.
