After claiming their maiden ODI World Cup, the Indian Women's Cricket team are now aiming to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup title. Keeping that in mind, the BCCI announced their squad for the upcoming England tour and ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by England and Wales from June 12.
The selection committee announced four names who will be playing their maiden T20 World Cup, as Bharti Fulmali, Nandani Sharma, Shree Charani and Kranti Gaud will get their first taste of the event.
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side for the fifth time at the tournament, while Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy. Both Kaur and Mandhana have come close to winning the title in the past and will look to go over the line this time.
Shafali Verma will be the opener alongside Mandhana, while Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh will be the other key batters in the team. Apart from Richa, Yastika Bhatia will travel as the second wicket-keeper batter of the team and can be an alternate top-order batter if needed.
However, it will be Deepti Sharma's presence in the middle with both bat and ball that will play a role in whether India does well in the tournament or not. The Player of the Tournament of the ICC Women's World Cup will enter the tournament as the No. 3-ranked T20I all-rounder and will hold the key for the Women in Blue.
Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav will be the other two spin bowling all-rounders in the side. Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh, and Kranti Gaud will have the responsibility of sharing the new ball for them.
After the completion of the T20 World Cup 2026, India will face England in a one-off Test match at Lord's on the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Women's Test between England and Australia.
The wait is over! ⌛
