ISL 2023-24: Odisha FC vs Chennaiyan FC - Match Report

First Half:

The Marina Machans kicked off the proceedings of the first half. Odisha started with great attacking intensity while Chennai mostly relied on counters. Amay Ranawade conceded an early yellow card for an unnecessary challenge to opponents players in the middle of the park. Odisha dominated the game early on but the game was postponed for about an hour due to poor weather conditions. The game restarted and Chennai looked focused this time. But the Juggernauts didn't let the first half end goalless as Jerry broke the deadlock and gave Odisha the lead in the last minute.

Odisha FC kept on dominating the field and made some initial pressures. But the Marina Machans absorbed the initial pressure and slowly grew into the game. Connor Shields missed a golden opportunity set up by Aakash Sangwan otherwise the scoreline would be the equal after the first half.

Second Half:

The Marina Machans started the second half on a positive note. They were pressing high and winning the second balls. In the 56th minute, Connor delivered a free header but none of his teammates upfront made a perfect connection with the ball for a proper finish. It was the second golden chance that Chennai didn't capitalize on.

Roy Krishna wasn't as impactful as expected and Sergio decided to bring Mauricio in place of him. Substitute Mauricio scored the second goal in the 62nd minute and showed his impact right away. It was quite surprising that both teams couldn't produce goal-scoring opportunities after that. Odisha maintained their defensive shape well to make sure they ended the match with a clean sheet.
