According to the latest Ligue 1 news, an injury-time showdown helped Paris Saint-Germain skim past Rennes by a 1-0 scoreline. With this lead, PSG stretched themselves to a comfortable 16 points lead from the second-placed Marseille.

Kylian Mbappe was the man who stood up just at the dead-end of the match to grab the winner. Rennes were all excited to steal a point off the Parisians however the Frenchman had other plans.

Ligue 1 News: The first half of the match

In the first half, Paris Saint-Germain started as their usual self with dominant possession. However, they lacked the much-needed intensity to get a complete hold of the game. And Rennes on the other hand were resilient enough to keep the PSG's attacking wave at bay.

The 2nd half of the match started in a similar fashion as Paris Saint-Germain ran riot at the Rennes resilient defence. But it was Rennes that went the closest to breaking the deadlock when Gaetan Laborde's header just skims past the target for Rennes around 57' minutes. However, when there was no hope and everyone expected the match to end in a 0-0 tie, the Argentine magician stepped up when his team needed him the most. Lionel Messi's clear vision traced Mbappe waiting for the ball delivery; which Messi most certainly did without any mistake and Mbappe fired it home at the 90+3 minute mark.

With this win, PSG is all pumped up for the upcoming Champions League fixture against Real Madrid.
