Hockey India announces team for Junior Women's camp

The names of 33 individuals who are expected to compete for India's junior women's team have been unveiled by Hockey India.

The names of 33 individuals who are expected to compete for India's junior women's team have been unveiled by Hockey India.

Hockey India unveiled the names of 33 individuals who are to compete for India's junior women's team as various tournaments are approaching, including the World Cup. However, they brought in a total of 65 players for a three-week camp at SAI. Afterwards, the Core Group was formed from them.

Janneke Schopman, the chief coach of the Indian women's team, stated of the core group, "This is a talented group of players. They have shown great promise in these past few weeks. They have good potential to further improve their game and be ready for some important tournaments this year. Including the FIH Women's Junior World Cup yet to be played in South Africa."

The Netherlands is the most successful team in the Women's Junior World Cup. They claimed the title three times. Also, Korea and Argentina have both fetched the title twice, whilst Germany has triumphed once. Although, India's highest finish in this renowned hockey event was gaining a bronze medal. However, in 2016, the Indian women's team was unable to qualify for the Olympics.

Junior Women's Core group unveiled by Hockey India

  • Goalkeepers: Khushboo, Madhuri Kindo, Kurmapu Ramya.
  • Defenders: Preeti, Neelam, Mamita Oram, Mahima Tete, Nishi Yadav, Sanskriti Sarwan, Kajal Bara, Manita, Manju Chorsiya.
  • Midfielders: Vaishnavi Phalke, Jyothi Edula, Jyoti Singh, Hritika Singh, Kshetrimayum Sonia Devi, Jyoti Chhatri, Ashwini Kolekar, Priyanka Yadav, Nikita Toppo, Anisha Sahu, Hina Bano.
  • Forwards: Annu,Beauty Dungdung,Taranpreet Kaur, Rutuja Pisal,Madugula Bhavani,Mumtaz Khan,Deepika Soreng, Chandana J,Kajal Sadashiv Atpadkar, Aanchal Sahu.
