Where It’s Held
The first, and arguably most useful thing you need to know is where the Championship is going to be. Unlike previous years, the Brookhaven Country Club Texas has the honor of hosting the event this year. A beautiful setting in the heart of Texas, this is the perfect place for spectators and champions to come together to enjoy everything this sport has to offer. There are plenty of accommodation options on-site and there will be clear transport access during the main event.
When Is It?
The date for your diary is November 6th - 12th 2023. The games and events will take place over this period and there will be an awards ceremony at certain times as well.
How You Qualify
There is one simple fact to take on board if you want to compete. To qualify for this national tournament, players must have played in a qualifier tournament, and there were 12 options in total, though the timeline on some of these has now passed. Below are the places you can still register your intention and compete for a place in the main arena in November.
- 2023 June 28th – July 2nd APP Newport Beach Open
- 2023 July 27th – July 30th Baird Seattle Open
- 2023 August 24th – 27th Kansas City Open
Tips for Qualifying
You have to meet a certain professional standard in order to find success at the qualifying events. This means you will have to concentrate hard on fine-tuning your Pickleball skills and work strategically to improve your weak areas. Here are some ways you can do just that.
Find a Partner
Practice makes perfect, and what better way to improve your game than by playing with someone you can trust? Having a partner is great because they will tell you when you are stepping out of line, or doing things wrong, and celebrate your successes too. You can also help them with all of the above, and together you will find the strengths and weaknesses that define your unique player profile. You can even take this partner along with you for the Pickleball qualifiers if this is a shared goal.
Work On Your Fitness
Pickleball is a sport, so you have to be physically capable of handling the demands. There will be a lot of moving around the court and being mobile. If you are not quite up to the standard fitness wise, this will compromise your capacity to play. So, a big part of your training will be to get in shape as well as work on the specific skills needed for a successful Pickleball champion. Take a look at what you need to do, whether that is working on cardio resilience or dropping weight to get into a healthy range, and find a way to make it happen. Whatever your motivation or goal, your Pickleball game will thank you for making the effort.
Get a Coach
If you are feeling a bit lost and in need of a bit of extra guidance, you can learn to pickleball like a pro by enlisting the services of a professional coach. Having a professional by your side will help you highlight what you’re good at, and what could be improved. They will work with you on the technical stuff and bring you confidence and reassurance when you need it the most. If you are serious about competing at the national level, then this is a sensible move for your future self.
Practice
It may sound obvious, but engaging in regular practice sessions is the only way to get better at something. So, if you are currently a bit low on the practice schedule, it is time to boost your efforts and plan more hours. The more you play, the more you can get to know the nuances like which arm does what and when certain rules are applicable in different contexts. There may be a lot of information to take on board, but the more you get familiar with it, the better you will be at absorbing and putting things into action. Practice makes perfect, and there is seriously no point denying it.
Pickleball National Championships are coming up later this year. Are you ready? Or are you going to watch it? Whether you are a fan or a player, there are lots of opportunities to get involved. Don’t forget, if you do want to compete, you will need to take part in a Golden Ticket qualifier in order to be accepted into the official listings.
