Chess News: R. Praggnanandhaa becomes the third Indian to defeat Magnus Carlsen

Young Indian chess sensation R. Praggnanandhaa surprised the entire chess fraternity after defeating the World No. 1 chess player Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of the Airthings Masters. It is an online rapid chess tournament and the teen defeated Magnus with black pieces.

R. Praggnanandhaa was the youngest player in the tournament. He was going through a difficult time when he was set in opposition to Carlson in the eighth round. The young Indian Grandmaster won only one solitary game against Armenian GM Levon Aronian at that time.

The 16-year-old landed a few good positions in between the game but unfortunately failed to convert it into anything. Slowly his chances to win were decreasing as the reigning five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen were executing great moves. The young lad kept continuing the game with dedication and showed a wonderful game with his queen and knight.

Lastly, Magnus decided to resign from the game and handed it to Praggnanandhaa for a victory in 39 moves. This win made the teen boy 3rd Indian in the history of chess to defeat Magnus Carlsen. The former World Champion Vishwanathan Anand and GM Pentala Harikrishna are the two players to defeat Carlsen before R. Praggnanandhaa.
