The Indian pair defeated third seeds Neal Skupski of Great Britain and Desirae Krawczyk of the USA 7-6, 6-7 (10-6) in the semi-finals. Earlier, the Indian pair got a walkover against the Latvian and Spanish pair of Jelena Ostapenko and David Vega Hernandez in their quarterfinal match. The Sania-Bopanna pair so far lost only one set in the mixed doubles. However, the men's doubles pair of Bopanna and Matthew Ebden had made a first-round exit. While Sania and Kazakhstan's Anna Danilina lost in the second round of women's doubles.

Sania has already announced that Australian Open 2023 will be her last Grand Slam. After qualifying for the final, the top Indian tennis star has a big chance to win the last Grand Slam title before retirement. Sania will retire after the WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships starting on 19 February.

Sania and Bopanna are one win away from winning the Grand Slam together for the second time. Both had won the mixed doubles title of the French Open in 2017, 6 years ago. While talking about Australian Open, Sania Mirza won this title in 2009 with Mahesh Bhupathi. Sania has won a total of six Grand Slam titles so far.

Apart from mixed doubles, Sania Mirza was also participating in women's doubles. However, on January 22, her challenge in this event was over. Sania Mirza and her Kazakhstan partner Anna Danilina had to face defeat in the second round itself. The eighth-seeded pair of Sania and Danilina was defeated by Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck and Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 in a match that lasted more than two hours.
