Spanish tennis star Nadal has so far won 22 Grand Slams. This includes 14 French Open, 2 Australian Open, 2 Wimbledon, and 4 US Open. If he had won this time, it would have been his 5th US Open, but before that Frances Tiafoe stopped his journey.

Frances Tiafoe made it to the quarter-finals of the US Open 2022 tennis tournament for the first time, halting Rafael Nadal's winning campaign in the last 22 matches in Grand Slam tournaments. He had crashed out of the fourth round of the US Open twice. Tiafoe defeated Nadal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth-round match played at the Arthur Ashe Stadium which lasted for three hours. Tiafoe was overwhelmed by this victory. He is currently 24 years old and has been seeded 22nd at the US Open. He is the youngest American player after Andy Roddick (2006) to reach the quarterfinals of this tournament.

After the victory over Nadal, Tiafoe said, "Something special happened today, I don't know what to say, I'm so happy. He's one of the greatest of all time and I played unbelievable tennis today but I really don't know what happened."

After winning the first set and losing the second set, Tiafoe made a spectacular comeback to win the third set. In a tight fourth set, the Spaniard took a 3-1 lead, but Tiafoe stuck to his game plan and came back into the set. He won five consecutive games one after the other and took a ticket to the quarter-finals. After the match, he said that this victory is beyond happiness. Next, he will face ninth seed Andrey Rublev of Russia.
