Women's National Boxing Championships 2022: Nikhat and Lovlina bagged gold medals

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and defending world champion Nikhat Zareen on Monday won gold medals in their respective weight categories at the 6th Elite Women's National Boxing Championships 2022 in Bhopal.

Lovlina beat Services Sports Control Board's (SSCB) Arundhati Choudhary 5-0 in the 75kg final. While 26-year-old Nikhat faced a tough fight from RSPB's Anamika in the 50kg final. She won all the matches playing in the 50 kg weight category. Nikhat saved her title by making the result 4-1 in her favor. It was Nikhat's first National Boxing Championship medal.

Meanwhile, the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) won the team trophy with 10 medals. In the day's other bout, 2019 World Championships silver medalist Manju Rani defeated Tamil Nadu's S Kalaivani 5-0. RSPB got its first gold. Shiksha (54kg), Shashi Chopra (63kg) and Nupur (+81kg) also won gold medals for RSPB. Apart from five gold, Railways also won three silver and two bronze medals.

A total of 302 boxers competed in 12 weight categories in the Women's National Boxing Championships 2022 that concluded on Monday. Railways was adjudged the overall champion in the competition. While hosts Madhya Pradesh were declared runners-up with one gold, two silver and five bronze and Haryana team with two gold and two bronze stood third. Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur gave away prizes to all the winners.

60kg: Poonam (gold), Simranjit Kaur (silver), Preeti and Kros H (bronze)

63kg: Shashi Chopra (gold), Mahi Lamba (silver), Neema and Rinky Sharma (bronze)

66kg: Manju Bamboria (gold),  Ankushita Boro (silver), Parveen and Komalpreet Kaur (bronze)

70kg: Sanamacha Chanu (gold),  Shruti Yadav (silver), Lalita and Jyoti (bronze)

75kg: Lovlina Borgohain (gold), Arundhati Chaudhary (silver), Jigyasa Rajput and Bhawna (bronze)

81kg: Saweety Boora (gold), Anupama (silver), Sushma and M Sribhavana (bronze)

81kg+: Nupur (gold), Monika (silver), Lipakshi and Neha (bronze)
