Women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand put up a strong show to storm into the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships 2023 with a straight-game win over Chinese Taipei's Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun on Wednesday.

World No. 19 pair of Gayatri and Treesa, who got a bye in the first round, defeated 37th-ranked Chang and Yang 21-18 21-10 in 38 minutes. Treesa and Gayatri were initially trailing 2-5 but soon rallied to reduce their opponent's errors to 8-6. Although there was a tie 8-8, the Indian pair took an 11-9 lead at the break after the Taiwanese pair hit the net.

Treesa-Gayatri lead 14-11 after the break. After that, Treesa committed a few unforced errors. But the Indian pair still managed to keep its nose ahead, despite the fighting Taiwanese pair. A service error from Chang and Yang gave the Indian pair four game points. Treesa sent one wide and then hit the net to squander two of them before sealing it when Yang sprayed into the net.

In the second game, the Indian pair maintained the same momentum and were leading 8-5 at one stage. A powerful serve saw the Indians maintain a three-point lead at the break. Gayatri-Treesa soon lead 14-8. The Indian pair was called for a service fault due to height but it had no effect. They led 19-10 as their opponent made unforced errors. The Indian pair were ahead by 10 match points when Yang's forehand hit the net. After that, the Indian duo won the match when their opponent went wide.

Earlier, the Treesa-Gayatri duo had reached the semi-finals in the previous two editions of the All England Championship. They will now face Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan of China in the BWF World Championships 2023 pre-quarterfinals.
