BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a huge Rs 125 crore prize money for the Rohit Sharma-led side after their T20 World Cup win over South Africa in Barbados on Saturday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a huge Rs. 125 crore prize money for Team India after their T20 World Cup 2024 title triumph over South Africa in Barbados on Saturday. BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced the prize money on social media on Sunday. India beat South Africa by 7 runs to win their first ICC title in 11 years. This is their second T20 World Cup title as they became only the third team to do so.

BCCI announce 125 crores of prize money for the Indian Team

Jay Shah stated, “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement.”

According to ICC, India were awarded a tournament prize money of $2.45 million (Rs. 20.42 crore) after clinching the title while runners-up South Africa bagged $1.28 million (Rs. 10.67 crore) prize money. The win under the leadership of Rohit Sharma ended India's ICC title drought of 11 years. India’s last ICC title came in 2013 when they became the Champions Trophy winners, beating England in a thrilling encounter. India won their second T20 World Cup title after waiting for 17 years.

Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirements from the T20I format after their historic win in Bridgetown over South Africa. Head coach and former captain Rahul Dravid also completed his tenure with the team on a high, winning his first major ICC tournament with the national team.
