New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr is in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, New Zealand Cricket said on Monday. The 21-year-old had a positive Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and will undergo a period of hotel isolation before re-joining New Zealand for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022.

"Kerr is the only player from New Zealand's tour party to test positive for Covid-19. The rest of the group will continue to be monitored and tested as required."

New Zealand Cricket said in a statement

The Commonwealth Games are scheduled to begin on July 28 in Birmingham.

New Zealand has a week's training at Millfield School, including two practice matches against England A, before transferring to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games at the end of July.

New Zealand and England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka are in Group B. They will play South Africa on July 30, Sri Lanka on August 2, and England on August 4 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Meanwhile, Group A includes Australia, Barbados, India, and Pakistan.

For the first time, cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games since a List A men's tournament during the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with South Africa winning the gold medal after beating Australia in the final by four wickets. The matches at the 2022 event will be played under the Twenty20 format and only the women's tournament will be held.
