The runners-up of the 2021 edition Kolkata Knight Riders have to pay at least 6 crores instead of 4 crores to retain Venkatesh Iyer for IPL 2022 as he made his India debut yesterday against New Zealand in the opening game of the 3 matches T20I series. India managed to win by 5 wickets in the opening clash last night at SMS Stadium, Jaipur.

India's new T20I captain Rohit Sharma won the toss as he decided to field first against the blackcaps. Venkatesh Iyer makes his debut in the game after a successful IPL campaign in UAE. Although, the batting all-rounder has not got the chance to bowl. But, in the 2nd innings, he came to bat at 6, when India needs 10 runs in the last over. The left-hander hits a boundary over the mid-wicket region in his very first ball but got out on the next delivery.

Rishabh Pant finished the match for India by hitting a boundary over the head of the long-off fielder. India successfully chased down a good target of 165 runs in a last-over thriller. Surya Kumar Yadav is top-scored for India as he smashes 62 runs in 40 balls to ensure India's victory after Rohit's brilliant innings of 48.

In the bowling department, Ashwin stars as he took 2 wickets along with Bhuvi who also takes two. Chahar and Siraj took 1 wicket each to restrict the blackcaps within 164.

However, each IPL teams have to retain their players within December 25, ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction in January 2022.
