BCCI have announced the opening date of the IPL 2025 as the 18th edition of the world's grandest franchise T-20 tournament will commence on March 21, 2025.

Both the opening game and the final on May 21, 2025, will be played at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, whereas two of the play-off games will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

The IPL Governing Council and BCCI adjusted the schedule from its previously proposed window of March 14 to May 25, 2025, to the newly proposed dates from March 21 to May 21, 2025.

This change came after the consideration to allot a two-week gap between the Champions Trophy Final on March 9 and the IPL 2025 Opener.

To align with the IPL norms, the home stadium of the previous champions hosts the opener and the final of the following season as Kolkata Knight Riders will feature in the opening game at Eden as the defending champions.

On the other hand, last year's runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad will be awarded Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

Cricbuzz reports that the BCCI will soon release the complete schedule at the end of this month. This announcement is expected to come after Devjit Saikia is elected as secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer during a Special General Meeting to be held in Mumbai on January 12.
