With time, the Indian Premier League has become a tougher place to defend totals with smaller boundaries, dew, better pitches and fearless batting. Teams now prefer to chase and even chase totals over 250 in an inning as well. In this scenario, there are a few teams that have been successful by defending 200+ totals with disciplined bowling.
Till 2025, the Mumbai Indians were the only team to never lose a game whenever they scored over 200 in a match. However, they recently lost that tag after failing to successfully defend 200+ totals. Here are the top five teams with most wins while defending 200+ scores in IPL.
5. Kolkata Knight Riders | Won 15 matches
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the fifth most successful team while defending 200+ totals in the Indian Premier League. They have scored 200+ 20 times in their history and successfully defended it 15 times.
In fact, KKR were the first team to score 200 or more in an innings in the IPL and then successfully defended that in the first-ever match of the tournament in 2008 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Since then, they have repeated the same feat against RCB three more times.
Punjab Kings are another team against which KKR have successfully defended a 200+ total four times.
KKR's last such result came against Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2025 clash in Kolkata, when they won by 1 run while defending 206.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) always were the team with an explosive batting lineup. But it was their bowling that let them down quite a few times while defending totals.

With 22 wins out of 30 times, RCB are the most successful team while defending 200+ scores in IPL. Their records took a U-turn post 2024 as they won nine of 10 times while defending 200 or more.
