Rohit had taken rest in the home test series against New Zealand. Mayank Agarwal showed his class at the top of the order in absence of him. Mayank went on to score a huge ton in Mumbai also.

Priyank Panchal replaces Rohit Sharma in the Test squad. However, with Rohit missing the tests, it is quite obvious that it will be KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal who will face the new ball for team India.

In addition to that, BCCI and the team management will have to select a vice-captain of the test team as well. Previously, BCCI had sacked Ajinkya Rahane from the vice-captain position. Hence, it will be interesting to see who will be given that position again. Ravichandran Ashwin might be considered for that role.

The South Africa vs India 2021-22 test series will start from 26th December 2021. India will play three tests and three ODIs against South Africa.
