The idea of using VAR technology has already started. But before that, the federation is in favor of introducing AVRS or 'Additional Video Review System'. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has written to the IFAB to explore the possibility of introducing an additional video review system on a trial basis in India.

The 2016–17 season saw the first use of VAR technology in international football. This technology can turn the tide of a match mainly due to its use in four specific cases. It is mainly used to determine whether a goal has been scored, to give a direct red card to a footballer to decide on a penalty, and to determine if there is a mistake by the eye of the referee on the field. Also, in various situations, the referee in charge can take the help of this technology if necessary.

The AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey's recommendations aim to send specific information to referees through a variety of single and multiple camera broadcast feeds. A review of the technical infrastructure has already been initiated.

"Our prime objective here is to reduce the margin of error by empowering match officials with the technology to assist in their decision-making. While we will continue to work to implement VAR, I feel that, to begin with, AVRS can be a great option for a country like India. 'Additional Video Review System' would help us study the impact of the technology, train our match officials with the new concept, and assess its adaptation by players, coaches, and clubs alike."

Kalyan Chaubey

Problems with refereeing are nothing new in Indian football. But refereeing is at the center of controversy in the current ISL and I-League. As the number of cards in almost every match in the country's No. 1 league is increasing, teams have repeatedly expressed their anger over the refereeing.

Chaubey has suggested the AIFF Referee Department undertake the study to seek FIFA's suggestions and approval.

In the current ISL, questions are being raised about refereeing in almost every match. Hence the demand for 'Video Assistant Referee' technology has already been raised in Indian football to make ISL-I league matches error-free. Advanced technology on the football field has long been effective in international football. By using 'Additional Video Review System' the referee can make the necessary correct decision. AIFF has started preliminary work on VAR technology in India.
