The 'Kolkata Derby' is never just another game for both the Mohun Bagan and East Bengal fans, as it is heavily entwined with the emotions of an eternal culture of football in Kolkata. However, in the recent meetings, Mohun Bagan had the last laugh mostly, where East Bengal has ended the derbies in despair for themselves.

During the fifth match-week of the ISL 2024-25 in October 2024, The Mariners and The Torchbearers met at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata, where the Mohun Bagan side emerged victorious by 2-0 over a tumultuous East Bengal.

Head coach Oscar Bruzon featured for the first time in East Bengal's dugout that day, but he did not have any time with the squad to prepare. However, this time Bruzon will have to deal with the injuries ahead of the Derby and he must conjugate a strong squad to take on the high-flying Mariners. 

Currently, Mohun Bagan SG are sitting atop the leaderboard, having earned 32 points in 14 matches. On the contrary, East Bengal are placed eleventh with 14 points in 14 matches.

Team News and Injury Updates: Mohun Bagan SG

Anirudh Thapa and Ashique Kuruniyan are both expected to be sidelined for the Derby game because of injury concerns. Dimitri Petratos might be included in the squad but will not feature in the starting eleven.

However, head coach Jose Molina is expected to hand a starting eleven berth to Greg Stewart, who was named Man of the Match against East Bengal in October.

Coach Oscar Burzon will have to pick the players from a very handful of options for the Derby. Saul Crespo has started training with the squad after recovering from a long-standing injury, but the midfielder's inclusion is likely not on the cards. 

On the other hand, center-back Anwar Ali who suffered a knock in the last match, is excluded from the squad. Other side-backs, Mohammad Rakip and Provat Lakra are also doubtful for tonight.

East Bengal's new signing Richard Celis is expected to join the squad in Guwahati, but he may not be match-fit to sit on the reserve bench.
