Liverpool kicks off the 2024 in style by registering a 4-2 victory in the Liverpool vs Newcastle clash at Anfield.

Liverpool came into the match with Newcastle United desperately wanting to secure another victory. Mohamed Salah scored his 150th and 151st league goals for Liverpool as they beat Newcastle 4-2 in Premier League at Anfield. Salah had a golden chance to score his landmark goal from the spot but Martin Dubravka saved his shot brilliantly. Newcastle did score 2 goals but the scoreline doesn't justify the Liverpool vs Newcastle clash.

Despite the first-half ended goalless, it didn't take long for Liverpool to take the lead as Salah broke the deadlock in the 49th minute. Alexander Isak quickly leveled the scores to silence Anfield, but Curtis Jones put Liverpool back in front.

Cody Gakpo scored the third to give Liverpool a two-goal cushion but Sven Botman finished clinically for Newcastle late on to keep the hopes alive. However, Diogo Jota won a penalty Salah converted from the spot to wrap up the match.

This victory makes Liverpool three points clear of Aston Villa at the top of the Premier League, and five points clear of both Arsenal and Manchester City. Manchester City will get their opportunity to decrease the lead as they still have one match in hand.

Dubravka made three crucial saves in the first half while Salah missed a fourth penalty in his last ten attempts.

Dubravka played like a wall and kept out Darwin Nunez twice, one from close range before denying his one-on-one effort. He also denied Salah from the spot.

Liverpool got a penalty which spread controversy when Jota fell to the ground after taking the ball around Dubrakva. Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot for a second time. and It gave Salah the chance to redeem himself and he put the ball home for 4-2 and wrapped up the victory in the Liverpool vs Newcastle match.
