Discussions regarding the Indian-origin PIO and OCI players to allow them to represent the Indian National Team have started taking rounds again.

On Thursday, December 19, Leicester City announced that midfielder Hamza Choudhury has received clearance to represent Bangladesh in international football. The Bangladeshi-origin British footballer currently plays in the Premier League, arguably the best league in the world.

However, this move has injected enthusiasm for Bangladeshi football fans and once again opened the doors to discussions of Indian-origin footballers who could represent India. There have been several instances that elevated the possibility for PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) and OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) footballers to play for the Indian National team, but Indian Government laws have restricted the move in the end.
