5 sporting miracles that took place in 2025
5. Crystal Palace wins FA Cup
Crystal Palace’s FA Cup Final win at Wembley is one of the sporting miracles of 2025. Arguably the greatest day in Palace history, the Eagles won their first major trophy with a memorable 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Wembley. A glorious day under the arch will live long in the memory of everyone who was there and beyond.
2024/25 was a brilliant season that saw the side also record a club-record Premier League points total, with many golden highlights along the way.
4. PSG wins first Champions League title
Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League for the first time as Luis Enrique's brilliant young side outclassed Inter Milan on Saturday in the most one-sided final ever with teenager Desire Doue scoring twice in an astonishing 5-0 victory. The triumph for the Parisians follows over a decade of huge investment from their Qatari owners, and comes five years after they lost to Bayern Munich in their only previous final appearance.
It is also a second Champions League for PSG coach Luis Enrique, who won with Lionel Messi's Barcelona in 2015. This youthful PSG side is arguably the best the competition has seen since, one that has been intelligently pieced together over the last two years and fully unleashed this season following the departure of Kylian Mbappe.
3. South Africa wins first ICC trophy
South Africa claimed its first ICC trophy in 27 years after beating Australia by five wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. The WTC final win comes as redeeming touch for a country where the oldest format of the game is struggling to survive.
The Proteas’ last piece of ICC silverware was the 1998 KnockOut Trophy, later renamed as the ICC Champions Trophy. Since that title triumph, South Africa endured a heartbreaking run of close finishes in ICC tournaments, exiting in the semifinals on 11 occasions while losing one final, the T20 World Cup 2024 summit clash against India.
2. India Women's Cricket team lifts their maiden World Cup
Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and now Harmanpreet Kaur. The Indian women’s cricket team etched its name in history, turned long-cherished dreams into reality and clinched its maiden Women’s World Cup title with a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa. Incidentally, India was the last of the four teams to qualify for the semifinals, but then beat defending champion and seven-time winner Australia by five wickets to reach the final. The win over Australia grabbed mass attention in India, where men's cricket has been center stage so far.
For India, this victory was years in the making. After falling agonisingly short in 2005, 2017, and 2020, Harmanpreet's resilient India finally crossed the line. A new champion has been crowned, and with it, a golden chapter begins in Indian women's cricket.

1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru wins the IPL
From being a three-time runner-up, Royal Challenges Bengaluru finally broke their longstanding drought and clinched their maiden Indian Premier League trophy after 18 long years. Seventeen editions of yearning and heartbreak turned into unadulterated joy for the massive fanbase as RCB shut out Punjab Kings by six runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rajat Patidar, in his first season as RCB captain, achieved what many - Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, to name a few - could not attain.
Kohli was in tears once he realised Bengaluru were about to shed the underachiever tag that has stuck to them. It was a moment of pure emotion, not just for the players but also for the loyal fanbase that has supported the team for nearly two decades.
