Maharashtra opening batter Prithvi Shaw hit the third fastest double century in Ranji Trophy history. The 25-year-old took 141 balls to reach the 200-run mark in the second innings of the Elite Group B clash between Maharashtra and Chandigarh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. This is now the third-fastest First-Class double ton by an Indian, only behind Ravi Shastri (123 balls vs Baroda in 1985) and Tanmay Agarwal (119 balls vs Arunachal Pradesh in 2024). Shaw was eventually dismissed for 222 off 156 balls.

Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal shattered numerous batting records through his captivating 366 against Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate Group match of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season back in January 2024 in Hyderabad. Throughout his 181-ball stay at the crease, Agarwal raced to his double century from just 119 balls to smashed Ranji Trophy’s fastest-ever double hundred.

Roughly 40 minutes later into the innings, Tanmay completed his triple ton from 147 balls. He eventually concluded his innings at 366 from 181 balls with 34 fours and 26 sixes as Hyderabad charted 615-4d in just 59.3 overs at a run rate of 10.33.

2. Ravi Shastri | 123 balls vs Baroda (1984/85)

During the 1984-85 season, Bombay (now Mumbai) met Baroda in a group stage match, and the former Indian coach Ravi Shastri displayed a whole different version of himself in front of the world, registering a double century in just 123 balls.

With a 41-run first innings lead, Shastri smashed 13 fours and 13 sixes to aggregate 130 off his 200 unbeaten runs from boundaries alone, as Mumbai posted 457-5d in their second innings at a run rate of 5.70. Ravi Shastri also picked up five wickets in the game across both innings, but in spite of his best efforts, the match still ended in a draw.

3. Prithvi Shaw | 141* balls vs Chandigarh (2025-26)

Prithvi Shaw scored 222 runs off just 156 balls in the second Maharashtra innings from their Elite Group B game of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season against Chandigarh at the Sector 16 Stadium in Chandigarh. Shaw raced to his double century in just 141 balls, before finishing his knock with 29 boundaries and five huge sixes to his name.

The innings also marked Prithvi Shaw’s first-ever century for Maharashtra, as he continues to knock on selection doors for a spot in India’s Test line-up.

4. Rahul Singh | 143 balls vs Nagaland (2024/25)

Rahul Singh blew away Nagaland bowlers with an amazing double century from just 143 balls in the Plate Group match of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season back in January 2024. Batting first at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima, the cricketer unleashed 214 runs from 157 balls with 23 boundaries and nine huge sixes, and shared century-plus partnerships with opening batter Tanmay Agarwal and with captain Tilak Varma. 

Rahul Singh’s double ton helped Hyderabad to a monumental 474-5d in just 76.4 overs to set up a huge innings win by 194 runs over the hosts.

5. Snehal Kauthankar | 146 balls vs Arunachal Pradesh (2024/25)

Goa middle-order batter Snehal Kauthankar blasted a double century from just 146 balls during his batting against Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate Group match of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season back in November 2024 at the Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground. The cricketer scored 314 unbeaten runs in all from just 215 deliveries, thus also smashing one of the fastest Ranji Trophy triple hundreds in the same innings. 

Overall, Kauthankar scored 45 fours and four huge sixes and made a 606*-run partnership with fellow triple-centurion Kashyap Bakhale as Goa posted 727-2d before completing a remarkable innings win.
