The pair shared a 195-run stand for the third wicket, which is India’s highest partnership for any wicket in ODI cricket against South Africa. The Kohli-Gaikwad pair broke the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik, who added 194 runs for the second wicket against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010.

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane comes fourth on this list with their 189-run third wicket partnership. The duo took India to a comfortable six-wicket win in the first one-day international against South Africa at Kingsmead in 2018. Kohli made 112 and Rahane scored 79 as India reached the winning target of 270 with 27 balls to spare.

With this victory, India ended a sequence of 17 successive home wins by South Africa and comprehensively outplayed the team that went into the match as the top-ranked one-day international team.

The iconic duo of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar remains one of the rarest pairs in world cricket. The world knows about their excellence, but South Africa faced the heat of their fiery partnership in 2001. Playing the first ODI match in Johannesburg. In just 68 deliveries, they completed a 50-run partnership and soon turned it into a courageous 100-run stand. In between, Ganguly smashed a half-century, and Master Blaster kept anchoring the innings.

While chasing, South Africa were bundled out for 248 runs and lost the one-sided affair by 153 runs.

As mentioned earlier, Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad scripted history as they recorded the highest partnership for India against South Africa in ODIs for any wicket. Kohli and Gaikwad stitched a brilliant 195-run stand for the third wicket, which guided India to cross the 300-run mark during the second ODI of the three match ODI series against South Africa.

In the match being played in Raipur, Virat Kohli scored 102 runs off 93 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 7 fours. This was the 53rd century of his ODI career. Ruturaj Gaikwad, meanwhile, was dismissed after scoring 105 runs off 83 balls with 2 sixes and 12 fours. Ruturaj completed his century in 77 balls. This was the second-fastest ODI century by an Indian batsman against South Africa.
