The Men in Blue created history by becoming the first-ever team to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup thrice in the final of the IC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. They also created multiple records by beating New Zealand in the final. As the whole nation celebrate the win of Surya Kumar Yadav and his men, we present you the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Winners list starting from 2007 to 2026.

ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2007 Winner | India

ICC Men's T20 World Cup winners list - India - 2007
India lifted the inaugural ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007. 

The first ever ICC Men's T20 World Cup edition held in 2007 was hosted in South Africa where India claimed the first T20 WC title by beating their arch-rival Pakistan by 5 runs. Indian Cricket Team Led by young captain MS Dhoni defeated Pakistan in the super exciting final where Mishabh-ul-Haq nearly taking Pakistan over the line.

In the league phase, the Indian team faced only 1 defeat against New Zealand during the Super 8s phase.

Shahid Afridi from Pakistan was the Man of the Series, while Mathew Hayden from Australia was the highest run scorer along with Umar Gul from Pakistan finishing as the highest wicket-taker.

India's Irfan Pathan was Man of the Match in the final.

After getting defeated by the India in the first edition of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan answered everyone in an emphatic manner as they won the final in 2009 by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in England.

In this edition, Pakistan faced two defeats, the first one against England and the second one defeat from Sri Lanka. Still, they managed to lift the title by performing well in the knockouts.

Pakistan's bowling attack - led by pacer Umar Gul was influential in them winning title.

Tillakaratne Dilshan from Sri Lanka was the Player of the Series and the top run-scorer whereas Umar Gul was the highest wicket-taker in that edition.

Shahid Afridi was the man of the match in the final.

In 2010, England became the first non-Asian team to lift the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

England Cricket Team was the winner of the ICC T20 World Cup 2010, hosted by West Indies.

With their victory, England became the first non-Asian team to win the T20 World Cup. In the 2010 final, England defeated their arch-rival Australia by 7 wickets to win the crown.

In this edition, the England team lost only one match against West Indies in the first game but after that, they won all the following games in the tournament to become the champion.

Kevin Pietersen was the Man of the Series whereas Mahela Jayawardene was the highest run scorer. Dirk Nannes of Australia finished as the highest wicket-taker in that edition.

West Indies won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2012 by defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Colombo.

Two years after England scripted history, West Indies, with probably the biggest names in T20 cricket went on to lift the title by defeating Sri Lanka in the 2012 final by 36 runs.

Marlon Samuels played a famous knock of 78 off 56 balls whereas Sunil Narine dismantled the home batting side in Colombo with a three-wicket haul by giving away just 9 runs.

Shane Watson from Australia was the Man of the Series and the highest run scorer whereas Ajantha Mendis from Sri Lanka was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

In 2014, Sri Lanka defeated India by 6 wickets to lift their maiden ICC Men's T20 World Cup title.

After getting heartbroken at home in the previous edition, Sri Lanka finally got their hands on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

The Lankan side defeated a strong Indian side to stop them from becoming the first team to win the title twice. Virat Kohli's 77 of 58 balls went in vain as Kumar Sangakkara's unbeaten 52 off 35 balls took them over the line. Sri Lanka eventually got the better of India by six wickets.

Virat Kohli from India became both the top run-scorer and also won the Player of the Series while Ahsan Malik and Imran Tahir were the joint-highest wicket-takers in that edition.

In 2016, West Indies became the first nation to lift the ICC Men's T20 World Cup multiple times.

In 2016, West Indies proved their worth in the shortest format of the game by becoming the first nation to lift the ICC Men's T20 World Cup multiple times. 

The Caribbean nation defeated England by four wickets in one of the greatest ICC finals ever at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Marlon Samules again proved why he was considered as one of the best of his time as he played an unbeaten knock of 85 off 66 balls to take West Indies close to England's total.

But, then it was all about all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite's 'Remember the name' moment as he hit 4 continuous sixes in 4 balls against Ben Stokes, with West Indies needing 19 to win in the final over. 

Marlon Samuels won the Man of the Match award in the final while Virat Kohli became the Man of the Series for the second consecutive edition. Tamim Iqbal was the top run-scorer and Mohammad Nabi from Afghanistan was the highest wicket-taker in the 2016 edition.

The biggest carnival of T20I cricket had to wait for five years before the 2021 edition got hosted by Oman and UAE. Australia, who only had the T20 World Cup left to be added to their resume, completed the circle by defeating New Zealand in the final by 8 wickets.

Kane Williamson's Vaillant 85 off 48 balls could not come handy as David Warner's 53 at the top of the order and then Mitchell Marsh's unbeaten 77 off 50 balls handed Australia an easy win.

Michell Marsh ended up winning the Player of the Final award whereas David Warner was Man of the Series. Babar Azam was the highest run scorer whereas Wanindu Hasaranga from Sri Lanka was the top wicket-taker in that edition.

In 2022, England became the second nation to lift the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the second time.

In the next edition England became the second nation after West Indies to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the second time. 

In the final, England won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first, as Pakistan scored a total of 137/8 in 20 overs. England chased the total with one over to go with 5 wickets in hand.

Naseem Shah, Harris Rauf, and Shadab Khan tried to apply the pressure but they were eventually not able to stop England from winning the title. 

Virat Kohli finished as the highest run scorer with 296 runs in 6 matches while Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasranga was the most successful bowler with 15 wickets in 8 matches with an economy of 6.41.

India became only the third nation to lift the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the second time.

In 2024, India's 13-year wait finally ended on a glorious day in Barbados by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa by seven runs.

With this, India became just the third side to win the Men’s T20 World Cup twice after England (2010, 2022), and West Indies (2012, 2016).

India held their nerve in a closely fought final as Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh's tight bowling helped them win the title with Virat Kohli scoring a valuable 76 off 59 balls in the first inning. 

Jasprit Bumrah with 15 wickets was awarded the Player of the Series award while his bowling partner Arshdeep Singh finished as the join-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets.

India became the first men's team in history to defend the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and also the first ever team to win the T20 title at home when they thrashed New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final. 

Sanju Samson's 89 off 46, Abhishek Sharma's blistering 52 off 21 balls and Ishan Kishan's 54 off 25 balls helped India scored a record-breaking 255/5 in the first inning. 

India defended the total as Jasprit Bumrah picked up 15/4 in his four overs to bamboozeled the kiwis. 

Sanju Samson won the Player of the Series award for his 321 runs in the tournament.
