In the first ODI, chasing a target of 307, Kane Williamson and Tom Latham put up a partnership of 200 to end India's hope. Kane remained unbeaten on 94* while Latham hammered 145* runs to put India backfoot. Although, the bowling performance was ordinary from the Kiwi side, with Southee and Ferguson both taking three wickets each. Adam Milne leaked up runs while picking up one wicket and the rest bowler's remained wicketless.
