India's top domestic List A (50-over) cricket tournament, popularly known as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, is organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually. The 2025-26 season is slated to start on 24 December 2025.
The format of the tournament is similar to One Day Internationals (ODIs), as each team can bat for a maximum of 50 overs, and the state teams (along with some unit teams) from across the country fight for the one-day national title. Its roots can be traced back to the first Ranji One-Day Trophy held in 1993–94. The tournament was rebranded in 2007-08 in honour of the legendary Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare after his death in 2004.
● Tournament Format: Round-robin group stage followed by knockout rounds (Preliminary quarter-finals → Quarter-finals → Semi-final → Final)
● Recent Format Notes: The competition used to be zonal until 2002-03; in the 2018-19 season, elite and plate groups were introduced to provide competitive balance.
Successful teams
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the duo that has been very successful in this tournament, have each claimed the title five times so far. The 2024-2025 edition marked the fifth victory for Karnataka, who beat Vidarbha in the final.

As per the reports from Republic World and Trade Brains Sports, Rohit Sharma is yet to give his official confirmation with regard to his participation in the forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025‑26.
At first, it was reported that he had notified the Mumbai Cricket Association of his presence, but MCA officials have said that they have not yet heard from him. On the other hand, there is still no clarity about Virat Kohli's matter.
The 2025-26 edition, commencing later this year, will be a great opportunity for both new and experienced players to display their abilities in the 50-over format once more.
