Which team has qualified for the IPL playoffs most times?

Achieving a consistent playoff qualification is a big flex for IPL franchises. Some teams have made their way to the playoffs so many times that now it feels weird when they don't qualify. We are very close to the playoffs of IPL 2026, and some teams have already booked their berth, adding a number to their playoff appearance.

So, the question now is, which team has qualified for the IPL playoffs most times? Let's find out.

Chennai Super Kings (12 times)

Chennai Super Kings stands as the IPL playoffs King, having qualified 12 times in their 16 seasons. This unmatched legacy grows even stronger with their title-winning history.

From 2008 to 2015, CSK qualified for the playoffs in eight straight seasons before they were suspended in 2016. After their return from suspension in 2018, they straightaway qualified for the playoffs and also clinched the title.

Since then, they have only qualified for playoffs in 2019, 2021 and 2023. They are also the team with the most matches played in IPL playoffs history (26).

CSK also holds the record of reaching the IPL finals the most number of times (10 times), and winning 5 out of them, in the years 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.

Mumbai Indians (11 times)

Mumbai Indians are another IPL powerhouse with an exceptional playoff record. They qualified for the IPL playoffs 11 times and are also the five-time champions (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020)

They had to wait for three seasons to earn their first-ever playoff qualifications. But once the shackles were broken, it manifested in a six-game qualification streak till 2015.

After missing out in 2016, they again qualified next year. Post that, they qualified three more times in 2019, 2020, 2023 and 2025. They are the team with the second most matches played in IPL playoffs (22).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (10 times)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the IPL 2025 champions, have qualified for the playoffs in 10 seasons so far. With already six wins in their bag this season, it looks like they will be entering another playoff.

RCB's best streak came from 2009 to 2011, when they made a hat-trick of appearances in the playoffs. However, after that, they had to wait for four seasons before qualifying again. Post 2016, they again had a bad spell as they could not qualify in the next three seasons.

After qualifying in 2020, they made it to the playoffs in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025. In 2025, they went on to lift the trophy as well.
